Resurge After Breast Cancer

Background: The breast cancer research, the evolution of treatments and its early detection have contributed to the demystification of this cancer as a fatality. It is witnessed a considerable increase in breast cancer survivors, what becomes challenging for the health services. The community intervention project Resurge After Breast Cancer emerges from this challenge. Objective: To promote women after breast cancer mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing, from the Community Care Unit (CCU) intervention area. Method: Based on Health Planning methodology, a situation analysis was made through a quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study design, aimed at women after breast cancer belonging to the CCU intervention area, through the application of a questionnaire. Results: It was obtained a 45 women sample, and verified that: 50% of the respondents stated “No” to having sexual desire; 42,2% stated “Sometimes” having negative feelings; 33,3% “Moderately” accepted their physical appearance and 15,9% showed “Many” difficulties doing arm movements. For the prioritization process, it was applied the Hanlon method and an experts meeting was made, concluding not being possible to separate the dichotomous problematic related to the body image and to the psychosexual dimension. Conclusion: The project accomplished with the development of strategies and activities in order to fill the needs of the detected problematics, becoming a support instrument for the woman who survived breast cancer and that, after that misfortune, will help her to resurge.
