Abstract

Introduction: Children/adolescents with special health needs are a constant concern for their caregivers, so the coordination between parents, health and education professionals plays a decisive role in the implementation of empowering programs and in the promotion of the total inclusion of these students. Objectives: To promote the literacy of education professionals on aspects related to the management of the therapeutic regimen for type 1 mellitus diabetes and food allergies. Evaluate the impact of the school health nurse intervention. Methodology: Health education was used as an intervention strategy, through the empowerment of professionals who work in educational establishments with students with these problems. Results: The teachers and non-teachers who participated demonstrated insufficient knowledge about health issues, had difficulty identifying signs and symptoms of complications and did not had skills in handling the necessary materials to act in adverse situations, which constituted a limitation to care and support for students in a school environment. Conclusion: After the intervention of the school health nurse, there was a significant improvement in knowledge and ability to act.
