Introduction: Nursing staff sizing in hospitals is a broad subject due to the impact on the health of Nursing professionals, the quality and safety of care and the institution's revenue. In this sense, health costs related to nursing sizing must be estimated so that there is predictability and planning of investments that favor damage-free care. Objective: to carry out an assessment of the economic impact of nursing dimensioning in a Brazilian Army military hospital. Method: this is an empirical study in which only the calculation of the values of the procedures carried out was carried out by the number of existing Military Nursing personnel compared with the number of Military Nursing personnel necessary for the Nursing dimensioning of the military hospital where it was carried out the study. Results: The results demonstrated that Nursing sizing impacts not only the quality and safety of care but also the institution's revenue. Discussion: It was identified that Nursing sizing has a financial impact of US$835,120,000 on procedures performed for institutional revenue (Figure 2). This value increases to US$864,320,000.00 when more Nursing officers and health sergeants are added to the Nursing team at the military hospital. Conclusion: The insufficiency of nursing staff resulted in an economic and financial deficit in this institution, in addition to contributing to unsafe care. As Nursing is a profession with a female majority, the gender inequality that accompanies women in professional spaces is one of the variables that justifies there not being enough Nursing staff to size up to meet the care needs and financial efficiency in institutional revenue.
