Introduction: Cri-du-Chat syndrome is a rare genetic condition caused by a deletion on chromosome 5. This study focuses on nursing interventions to develop parental competencies in infants with this syndrome. The use of clinical scenarios is an excellent resource to ensure the safety and quality of care, requiring nurses to stay updated on protocols, promoting care efficacy, maintaining a safe environment, and minimizing errors. Objectives: To describe the nursing decision-making process aimed at developing parental competencies for an infant with Cri-du-Chat syndrome. Materials and Methods: An exploratory-descriptive case study in a simulated clinical setting, applying the nursing process methodology supported by the nursing ontology approved by the Portuguese Order of Nurses. Data collection was conducted through direct observation and document analysis. Results: Specific care needs were identified for a 1-month-old infant, including generalized hypotonia and swallowing difficulties. Nursing interventions focused on the significance attributed to the use of devices, training parents in tube feeding, and educating them about health surveillance for the infant. Conclusions: Effective nursing intervention allowed for the acquisition of parental competencies, promoting family adaptation and preparation for clinical discharge. The use of simulation scenarios enables practicing responses to emergencies. It is suggested that further investigations using different types of studies be conducted to strengthen the available evidence.
